Monstera Adansonii is known by a variety of names; Adanson’s Monstera, five holes plant, and most commonly, the Swiss-cheese plant. Botanists believe holes form in the leaves of this plant to allow sunlight to shine through to its roots and to allow wind to pass through with less resistance.
There are a variety of vines, such as the split-leaf philodendron, that are referred to as the swiss cheese plant. In recent years more specific names have been given to classify the different species.
Watering Monstera is typically done twice a week, but this will depend on the humidity of its location. This plant is used to the humid climates of South and Central America and prefers moist soil. You can always tell that it's time to water your Monstera when the top 1-2” of soil feels dry.
Though Monstera is incredibly beautiful, it contains insoluble calcium oxalates which are toxic to pets. If you have pets you'll want to keep this plant out of reach.
This vine loves to climb and if you provide it with a moss pole, you'll be rewarded for your efforts. Monstera is a beautiful, resilient, plant that is easy to care for and an absolute joy to watch grow.
