Also commonly referred to as the Laceleaf Anthurium or the Flamingo Lily, the Red Anthurium Tailflower Plant is a member of the Araceae family that grows well in most environments and loves to be watered frequently. Native to the humid, forest-dominated regions of Colombia and Ecuador, this plant enjoys high humidity, although it still flourishes at the levels available to it in the average household. Much like other members of its plant family, the Red Anthurium Tailflower requires water once per week. While this mark is dependent on other factors, such as temperature and the amount of light it enjoys per day, a weekly watering session is the perfect starting point before making adjustments.
This plant gets its flamingo nickname due to the bright, unique spathe leaves that appear over time. In general, it produces large, waxy, dark green leaves that take on the shape of a heart. Its spathe leaves, however, develop into a light red, offering a dazzling color contrast. Each spathe leaf possesses a small yellow spadix, and when viewed together, they bear a surprising resemblance to actual flamingos. Their tropical aura is a coveted addition to any room of your home, and the combination of the regular and spathe leaves will be a popular talking point when family and friends come to visit.
As if all this wasn’t incredible enough, the Red Anthurium Plant is also a natural air purifier, absorbing many of the airborne impurities found in your home or office!
Unfortunately, this plant is considered to be toxic to both humans and animals, mainly due to the calcium oxalate crystals it contains. Once consumed, it can cause burning sensations and stomach pains. Avoid placing this plant within the reach of any curious children or pets.
