Also known as Asplenium Nidus, the Bird’s Nest Fern possesses a unique appearance that other houseplants simply cannot imitate. Its leaves form a collection of bright green, spoon-shaped fronds that rise out of a central rosette. Unlike other houseplants that grow from the ground or along rocky coasts, the Bird’s Nest Fern is epiphytic, meaning that it grows on the surface of other plants. When found in nature, its fronds can grow up to 5 ft. long, while its indoor variants tend to see growth out to around 2 ft.
The Bird’s Nest Fern is native to rainforests and other tropical regions, so it enjoys the humid, shaded conditions that such environments would provide. It adapts extremely well to the temperature, humidity and lighting levels found in the average household, however, and it enjoys an occasional humidity boost through the introduction of a humidifier or the occasional misting of its leaves.
There are very few varieties of Bird’s Nest Ferns, and of those variations that exist, none truly diverge from the original. The “Osaka” variation offers leaves that are strap-like with rippled edges, while the “Victoria” variation’s leaves are long, wavy and tongue-shaped. All types of Bird’s Nest Fern are highly desired on the houseplant market.
This plant is considered to be non-toxic for humans and animals, which is great news for houseplant owners with small children and pets.
It's been 7 days, and Birdie is still alive and--may I say--thriving? I had a bit of trouble separating the "underplate" of the plant's pot, but today I accomplished that and gingerly watered Birdie. I've had a pandemic year-and-a-half full of missed and disappointing deliveries, but Plantquility delivers the goods. Each of my 4 delivered plants arrived in perfect condition, packed beautifully. And, as I said, 1 week in, and still alive! You guys have a steady customer in me.
I didn’t know where it was shipping from but was happy to see it was shipping from CA, only going to Venice, CA. Plant arrived nice, packaging was great, no mess. Plant was healthy and in great condition.
Packaged so well! It arrived in awesome condition.
What an incredible little plant this is. Perfect in every way!
My mom was so suprised when I sent her this amazing houseplant.
