The Ponytail Palm Plant is a member of the Agave family that can be found in homes all across the world. While it is not actually related to the Palm Tree, as its most common name would imply, it does share many physical attributes. The most notable of these is its long, thick stem, which greatly resembles the Palm Tree’s intimidating trunk. This effect is achieved due to the Ponytail Palm’s slender foliage growing exclusively from the top of the plant, leaving its stem bare. The deep green leaves of this plant are slender and begin to curve downward near their points, mimicking the leaves of a Palm Tree and making it appear as though the plant possesses a natural “ponytail'' of sorts.
Native to desert regions of Central America, the Indoor Ponytail Palm Tree is drought-resistant and comes packed with an array of similar perks that make it extremely durable. It does not need water more than 1-2 weeks at a time, and it flourishes in the temperature and humidity ranges found naturally in the average household. Overwatering is one of the primary issues when caring for the Ponytail Palm, but your plant will make it obvious to you that less water is necessary through changes in foliage coloration.
In case the Ponytail Palm didn’t already sound like an absolute winner, it is also considered to be non-toxic to both humans and pets, meaning that you do not need to be careful when finding a space in your home. This plant is perfect for any desks, table or other pieces of furniture in your home, but it can also make an impactful statement when occupying open floor space!
This plant came packages really well and has acclimated very well to our house!
