Dumb Cane - Dieffenbachia Seguine
Description: This species of Dieffenbachia is commonly referred to as “Dumbcane” and is of the family Araceae. Dieffenbachia Seguine is native to southern Central America, parts of South America such as Brazil, and can be found on select Caribbean Islands. These plants prefer moist environments that mimic their tropical home but are highly resistant to drought, which makes them an easy-to-care-for addition to your home or office.
Dieffenbachia Seguine is native to tropical regions of Central and South America, but resistant to droughts, so it makes a fantastic houseplant. The highly decorative “ dumb cane” plant is famous for its colorful, fleshy leaves and remarkable resilience.
This herbaceous perennial requires minimal care, and though it prefers to live in moist soil, it can also stand long periods of drought, so if you forget, or go out of town, you can rest assured that this survivor will probably be just fine.
These plants are active photosynthesizers and do not need direct sunlight. Place your Dieffenbachia Seguine in a shady place, and watch it thrive!
Dumb cane contains calcium oxalate crystals referred to as “raphides”. These needle-shaped raphides are present in the plant's cells and though they are not considered deadly, they can cause some unpleasant symptoms. Make sure to keep this plant away from pets or small children.
A fully mature Dieffenbachia Seguine can grow more than 10ft tall in the wild, but a 6-inch pot makes this exotic beauty an easily managed addition to any indoor collection.
Bring the colorful leaves of the tropics to your home or office with the ever-lovely leaves of Dieffenbachia Seguine!
