Also known as the Banjo Fig, the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree’s names are closely connected to the unique appearance of the plant. Indoor Fig Trees can grow up to 10 ft. tall, and its top-heavy foliage gives it the look of an actual tree while only requiring the care of a houseplant. The leaves themselves are large and possess intense veins. They offer a wide oval shape that resembles a banjo or violin, and they generally grow upright.
The Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree is native to regions of tropical Western Africa, which lends to its resilience and allows it to grow well in the conditions of the average household. It prospers in the temperature and humidity ranges of your home, and it is not strict when it comes to the amount of light that it experiences on a daily basis.
The beauty of the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree is mostly found in its foliage and lengthy stem. It does not tend to bloom outside of its native habitat, and with the little light that it requires, such blooms would not be significant or especially vibrant. This being said, its foliage more than makes up for a lack of flowers, and it functions as an air purifier.
Unfortunately, this plant is found to be toxic to both humans and animals. Pets and small children should be kept away from this plant’s leaves, as ingesting them could cause stomach discomfort. Additionally, its sap can cause your skin to become irritated, so it is recommended to wear gloves while grooming this plant.
