Also known as the Aechmea Fasciata, the Urn Plant set the bar high for houseplants looking to carve out a unique niche. It is native to regions of Brazil, and as such, it possesses many of the characteristics that are present in all tropical houseplants, such as ease of care.
The Urn Plant is unique in its vase-like shape, which is an effect caused by the formation of its silver-splotched leaves. Unlike other houseplants, Aechmea Fasciata requires that you place water within their leafy enclosure, as opposed to applying it directly to the soil.
After a couple years of growth, the Urn Plant produces a large pink and purple flower, which lasts from the mid-summer months to early winter. When this flower appears, expect the plant’s foliage to begin withering and losing its vibrance. You are able to propagate a new Urn Plant from the offsets it produces at its base. Aechmea Fasciata care is especially simple, requiring little change within your home.
Urn Plants have proven to be non-toxic to both humans and pets, so there is no need to fear any sort of dangerous interaction between yourself and its foliage. Take care to place this plant in a stable environment, however, as it is quite top-heavy and prone to tipping.
