What Is The Dumb Cane?
The Dieffenbachia Seguine, also known as the Dumb Cane, is part of a group of tropical plants that feature large, oval leaves with green, white and cream coloring. While it will not reach the sizes of its outdoor counterparts, it will still grow into a sizable houseplant.
Their voluminous production of elegant foliage makes them the perfect deskside addition, as well as the ideal bookends for your furniture.
Light Care
During the growing season, the Dumb Cane prefers a shaded environment, where it can enjoy low levels of light. It can also tolerate bright, indirect light, as well as direct light, but only during the winter months when the sun is less intense.
Ideally, keep your plant behind a curtained window or somewhere else in your home where it can be shaded from light sources.
Water Care
Water your Dumb Cane biweekly, as it enjoys staying moist. During the growing season, ensure that the plant stays moist, and reduce the amount of water that you provide it during the winter months.
To check the water levels of your plant’s soil, place a water meter several inches into the soil, where it will give you an accurate indication. If you do not own a water meter, stick one finger knuckle-deep into the soil. At this depth, you will be able to accurately account for the soil’s level of moistness.
Food Guide
Use a fast-draining soil to ensure that water is distributed properly. During the growing season, provide your plant with a balanced, diluted fertilizer every 4 - 6 weeks.
